family

happiness comes from surrounding yourself with amazing people. there is truly nothing more beautiful than great friendships and the comforts of family

I spent the past weekend in Georgia on my grandparents farm. Sadly, it was for my grandpa's memorial. I have so many wonderful memories from him though. So, here's what I learned from grandpa:

#1. Shut the door. Always. Either a cat is gonna run out or you're gonna be responsible for a lingering draft on the cold nights or for letting all the paid air out on the hottest of summer days. Basically, preserve what's good.

#2. Always make a good first impression. Almost never would you see grandpa without a smile and extended arms to give a big bear hug. He had so many friends and could light up a room with one of his jokes.  He loved to tease people, me included. It's necessary to not take yourself too seriously.

#3. Life is sweet. And grandpa loved his sweets. So yes, I can appreciate the delicacy of a cupcake. It can't always be rabbit food.  Don't sweat the small stuff.  It's all small stuff.

#4. Happy wife, Happy life. Grandpa loved grandma without question everyday they were together. Even on grumpy days. Thank God for the barn. I watched them hold hands, kiss, joke, laugh, cry, argue, and genuinely love each other. It's worth the wait. And the effort.

#5. Work hard. Period. Hard work will always be respected. Sure, there's time for fun and games but all the while knowing it was earned from a labor of love.
